It is always a privilege and a pleasure to capture images of newborn babies. The early weeks are so fleeting and precious, we consider it an honour to be the studio trusted to create the images that parents will look back on for a lifetime.
The fragility of newborns is never more evident than when we work with one of the families who have babies treated at our local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Here in Luton we are fortunate to have a wonderful NICU facility at our local hospital, and we regularly partner with the unit in charitable efforts, such as our 2017 charity calendar, which raised in excess of £5000 to help the special NICU babies and their families.
One of our charity calendar stars was little Oliver Nunes who was born at The Luton and Dunstable hospital at 31 weeks. When Oliver was discharged from hospital after a month of special care, we arranged for him to come into the studio for his very first photoshoot.
As you can see, Oliver was still very small at his first session and as a result we tailored a Cherubs package that would run over four sessions rather than the usual three, so we could be sure to mark all his magical milestones.
Over the course of the Cherubs sessions we marked all of the amazing moments that the early days bring, and captured images just as Oliver began sitting un-supported, and later walking.
The four sessions gave us a wonderful opportunity to watch Oliver develop and grow, and by the time he graduated from Cherubs he was a chubby cheeked one year old, full of mischief, just as he should be!
“It was wonderful to bring Oliver to the studio for his sessions with David & Sue at Oakley Studios. David was the photographer at our wedding day, and had taken portraits of Oliver’s two older brothers, so as soon as we were discharged, we knew that we wanted David to take some photographs while Oliver was still tiny. The resulting images were so perfect and mean that we will always have a beautiful memory of when Oliver was very small.”
